Dermatitis/Skin Condition - Making a claim
Skin conditions can come in many forms and include conditions such as:
- Dermatitis
- Eczema
- Ringworm
-
Psoriasis
These conditions can be caused by numerous factors, for example these may include:
- Exposure to irritant products during the course of employment
Eg: lubricants, oils, detergents and bleach. - Frequent ‘wet working’ and/or the use of milder chemicals such as shampoo
- Aggravation of Psoriasis can be caused by trauma sustained in a Road Traffic Accident
- Excessive and improperly applied perming solution
Under The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 every employer shall ensure that the exposure of his employees to substances hazardous to health is either prevented or, where this is not reasonably practicable, adequately controlled. These regulations serve to protect the employee from being exposed to materials that cause skin diseases.
Skin conditions can be caused by a one off exposure to a strong chemical or also as a result of prolonged exposure to a product. Exposure can be during the course of your employment or by undergoing a beauty procedure, for example.
